Another hunting season is wrapping up in South Dakota and we were yet again blessed to have met some incredible people, opened the door for our seasoned hunters and welcomed back some of our favorite hunters from years gone by.

It is with mixed emotions that we share the following news taking place at Dakota Hunting Farms.

As hunting season comes and goes each year so do the seasons in our life. New opportunities open up and we pass on what we have learned to the next generation. Starting next year, Jake Ruenz will be taking over as head guide. Lynn will oversee things for a year to help the transition go smoothly while also pursuing his cattle, farming and construction operation.

Meanwhile at the 12 Gauge Lodge, Shelley Ernest will be stepping in to help with the shows and office work while also being head housekeeper. Gabrielle will still be around to help out where needed throughout the year. Gabrielle and her husband Tom have purchased the local meat market, formerly Frohling Meats Inc. now, Frohling Quality Meats, Inc. They invite you to continue to bring in your wild game for processing and check out their website if you need company gift baskets for the Christmas season. http://www.frohlingmeats.com

Waterfowl hunters had fantastic success this fall with both ducks and geese. Check out more pictures on our Facebook page and on our website. Waterfowl hunting licenses continue to be on a draw/lottery system with the success rate being in the high 80’s for us this year. Please plan ahead for this hunt as applications need to be submitted in June. We are happy to submit your application for you after a 50% non-refundable deposit.

Pheasant numbers were up this year and we could defiantly see that around Brown County. The true bird numbers seem to show up late season after all the crops are harvested and the temperatures cool down. Late season hunters have had very good success and 2015 is looking promising!!
